Behind the Scenes: Filming at Copperstate Truss

From the Spotlight to the Shop Floor

After the excitement of being featured in Simpson Strong-Tie’s national campaign, we wanted to share a look at what went on behind the scenes. The filming days at Copperstate Truss were a whirlwind of planning, preparation, and pride. From polishing every gantry to coordinating with a seven-person film crew, our team gave an inside look at what it takes to keep Arizona’s top truss manufacturer running at full strength.

A Production Bigger Than We Expected

We were so excited to welcome Simpson Strong-Tie to our Buckeye facility for several days of filming. In the weeks leading up to their visit, our team made sure the plant was spotless and running at peak performance. We wanted to showcase what makes Copperstate Truss stand out — not just our technology, but the people and precision behind it.

I’ll admit, I was expecting one or two people to show up with a handheld camera and maybe a tripod. Instead, we were greeted by a seven-person film crew!

Lights, Cameras, and a Lot of Sawdust

There were a couple of local vendors on hand with standard lighting and camera setups (who knew that was a full-time business?), but the real surprise came when five crew members flew in from California and across the country — armed with professional video cameras, lighting rigs, specialized mounts, and even a drone for aerial coverage.

Before filming began, Kathy and Cody spent time exchanging questions and answers with the creative minds behind the project, helping the Simpson Strong-Tie team capture the right story about who we are and how we work.

Ready for Action

On filming day, everyone showed up in brand-new Copperstate Truss shirts (we actually give out new shirts several times a year). We stocked the office with snacks, water, and lunch for both crews — it was a HOT week in Phoenix, and staying hydrated was key!

Time management was crucial since we only have so many build hours each day — and yes, we used every single one of them.

Capturing the Process

The crew started by filming our Monet DeSauw saws in action — capturing the hum of the Linear and Web saws cutting components to exact tolerances. Then they moved through the production line to feature our fabricators, stackers, loaders, and delivery drivers, giving viewers a true behind-the-scenes look at the entire workflow.

On Location: Mayfield - LGI Homes

After wrapping up at the factory, we traveled to Mayfield, a subdivision built by LGI Homes. LGI has made a strong commitment to quality construction, and we’re proud of the trusses we’ve provided for that community.

The drone footage they captured onsite was incredible — including shots of trusses being craned into position and even a hip section being set with precision. These scenes really highlight what Copperstate craftsmanship looks like once it leaves our yard and becomes part of a finished home.

The Finished Film

If you haven’t seen the video yet, be sure to watch it below. It’s a wonderful look at the people, technology, and dedication that make Copperstate Truss the preferred truss manufacturer for builders across the Phoenix area who care about quality and reliability.
